This weekend brought about a top of the table clash for us with (an unbeaten) Buscot Park at their very picturesque ground. Jk got off to a good start winning the toss and electing to bowl. Andy Pegg opened up strong, and much to everyone’s surprise, Andy Tremellen took to the other end! Buscot Park got off to a slow start and the first wicket fell in the 5th over, bowled by Andy Pegg. At the other end, Andy Tremellen pulled up injured in his 3rd over, meaning a swift change of bowler to Ed Reed was needed. Ed bowled very well and deserved a wicket but unfortunately, that’s just the way the game goes sometimes. It turned out to be a spinners wicket for Sherston with JK ending with figures of 3-26 and Harry Stevens with 3-27. The 8th wicket fell in the… over leaving Buscot 133-8, and things were looking favourable for Sherston. However, this was not the case, as Sherston struggled to break down the partnership between M.Thatcher and Batchelor who put on a much needed 73 runs them, leaving Buscot with a respectable 206-7.
After a lovely tea, Sherston took to the crease with DFP and Archie Walsh. Unfortunately, Sherston did not get off to a positive start as wickets fell quite early, bringing Ed in to steady the ship. DFP and Ed looked settled and were playing well until DFP was trapped LBW for 31. In typical Sherston fashion, with 1 comes a 2nd and 3rd loss of wicket in quick succession leaving Sherston on 57-5. This brought Lorcan Purser to the crease, generating a promising partnership with JK. Lorcan looked at ease in the middle, like he had never been away, and played some lovely cover drives. Sherston were back in with a chance until James Kutchera (40) got bowled leaving Sherston on 160-6. Lorcan quickly followed suit, bowled by M. Thatcher on 57. A well-deserved half-century. The tail then battled on trying to chase down the last few runs, however, Sherston fell short on this occasion finishing with 190 all out.
Onwards and upwards in the next game against Heytesbury & Sutton Veny CC
