Saturday saw a rather youthful looking SMCC team travel to the picturesque Buscot park.
Skipper JK lost the toss and Sherston was invited to take the field on a surprisingly firm wicket given the recent inclement weather.
Deprived of our regular opening bowling duo it was Archie and Simon entrusted with the new ball, a mixture of Archie’s pace and aggression plus Simon’s unpredictability, Buscots openers weren’t able to get away as dot ball after dot ball built the pressure, but the openers were stubborn if not overly threatening
The skipper entered the attack and made the breakthrough which brought Buscots danger man in who lived a charmed life at the crease until he too was cleaned up by the ever effective JK.
Then came the highlight of the innings, the introduction on the under 15s Alex Allman, who produced an eye-catching spell one of immense promise and one which had the opposition questioning the rules and trying to get him taken off due to his age! With 5 superb overs with 2 wickets (his first in the senior team) and hardly conceding a run, well bowled young man!!!
A mixture of tight bowling energetic fielding (well by most) and some indifferent batting meant Buscot were reduced to 77 all out.
In reply openers, Jarv and RC were rarely troubled and looked fluent until a tight hamstring forced Jarv to retire, although a couple of quick wickets followed RC and Archie saw us home with time and wickets to spare, RC looking in fine form with a stylish 31 to add to his 3 wickets!
A great win and brilliant to see the youth coming through with such great promise!
