Runs, wickets and locks

Cricket got started at Pinkney park last weekend good and proper with a good run out verses  a decent chipping Sodbury side. A sunny day looked like it was destined to be spoiled due to someone who shall remain nameless (well let’s call him Andrew J for anonymity) put the wrong lock on the outside of the pavilion and took the ONLY key with him up north. Cue confusion and a lot of strange looks from the opposition while we tried many ways of getting in the pavilion! A hacksaw was summoned and short time later we were in. Teas were frantically made and after losing the toss we were in the field.

A good run out from 9 bowlers was had with Simon Hulance and Andrew Pegg looking the most threatening of the bowlers. Sodbury got themselves 230 off their forty overs despite being 20-3 after 10.

So to the chase. Well we all batted…… Which was the point. Some impressive Sodbury bowling  up front but Sherston on the backfoot at 27-2 after 12. A slow a steady partnership built between Lovell and Harmer and when the partnership went past 100 the game looked to be swinging back. However Lovell went for 37 and despite some lusty blows Harmer went for 76 and the game ebbed away in the final overs and Sherston were bowled out for 178 and a loss by 52 runs.

However fun was had by all in a nice April day
