Committee Meeting 11/2022

SMCC

Happy New Year to all members, friends, and family of SMCC. We hope it’s a great year.

The Committee met before Christmas for its latest meeting, and we all agreed that we would like to
communicate to the club a summary of our discussions. We have the usual agenda items.
where we talk about club finances, an update from the captains and junior sections plus we
discuss any actions that are needed for the ground or machinery. Then there are additional
points we discuss on an ad hoc basis that need attention. This meeting was our end of season meeting, so we discussed the season just completed.

Our Saturday team finished the highest ever in Wilts and beat every team apart from the
champions. Captain Chris Fisk summed it up well when he stated, “I think we did alright!”
Our Sunday side continued to get a good mix of the young and old. Despite struggling for
fixtures sometimes, Captain Mark Howell felt “We managed to develop a good few of the juniors!”

Both teams are really looking forward to this coming year and more excellent games at Pinkney Park on Saturdays and Sundays next year!

We heard that the junior section continues to thrive, and we played more junior matches
than we have ever played. We experienced mixed results but very encouragingly we have a
managed to get a number of juniors into the county development teams which the club are
extremely proud of. More on that in a later communication.

We also discussed the potential funding available to develop the ground and its facilities, the
ECB has funding available, and we agreed to progress further the potential for electricity and
additional changing facilities at the ground although it is still early days.
We discussed our response to national and county cricket board communications and
attendance at the various league and wider cricket meetings where the club can have its say
in a wider forum. The meeting closed with the sad news of the death of our current
President’s wife, Joan Weeks, and the committee wished to pass its respects to John and
his family.

We also want to give notice to the club that we are holding the Annual General Meeting on the 9th February 2023 at 7.30 at the Rattlebone Inn. All members and prospective members’ welcome.
