After a couple of tough weeks the club got back to winning ways with a stunning team performance away at top of the League Avening & Cherrington. The skipper lost the toss on a wet green wicket. Progress from the top order was slow, but thanks to a gritty 75 from Matt Goodwin, supported by help from Harmer, Dickenson and the rest of the lower order, Sherston got up to a competitive 179 all out from the full 40 overs.
The Avening reply couldn’t have got off to a more eventful start, Pegg bowled the opening delivery which was top edged and looped to a deep gully……. drop! Later in the same over another slightly false shot and another drop (names have been removed to protect the culprits but they have paid the appropriate fine!). So instead of being 0-2, Avening finished on 2-0! Some lusty hitting followed with many Sherston player wondering what could have been, until Moore skilfully removed two in the 6th over to leave Avening at 40-2. Some good tight bowling from Moore 2-37, Dickenson 0-17 and Hulance 2-15 brought the run rate down and took key wickets to leave Avening looking in trouble. The introduction of Harmer 3-16 and the return of Pegg (3-35) mopped up the tail with Pegg beginning on a hat trick next week!
