A humbling at home!

Saturday 2.15pm came around this week with a fair amount of optimism and confidence from two wins out of two. One comfortable and one not so comfortable.  SMCC had been inserted by the Stow  skipper on what looked like a belter of a deck! Unfortunately, like too often in life, looks were deceiving…. Cue the top order being undone by some very slow but accurate bowling on a very lifeless pitch. Four out of the top 5 were bowled with only the skipper (Harmer) going fantastically caught and bowled for 18  just when he threatened to break the shackles. Kutchera 18 also departing (*cough* attempting to hit the international space station) when looking comfortable. Stow opening bowler Elsdale ending with generous figures of 10-6-12-5.  A slight recovery from 50-5 to 90 all out helped from the unlikely Pegg, 13, in the  “all rounder” position at No 8.

Not to be disheartened, SMCC thought they had at least given themseleves a chance if early wickets had been taken but alas through some wayward bowling and some unlucky edges Stow managed to get home without the loss of any wickets before tea.

So a Saturday with no points and very little positives, apart from being in the pub early on a sunny afternoon.

However, at least being league cricket, another chance comes along quickly so lets hope this is put behind us come 2.15 next Saturday at Cricklade CC.
