Sherston welcomed back a few familiar faces for the visit of Winsley 2nds on another picture perfect day at Pinkney Park.
Skipper JK won an important toss and elected to bat first on a dry looking wicket. A wicket in the first over however, was not part of the plan, Ian Gould joined James Harmer at the crease to set about rebuilding the innings against some challenging bowling. A combination of solid defence, good judgement and excellent running between the wicket blunted the Winsley attack.
The unlucky dismissal of Iggy for a determined 21 bought Richie Cartwright to the middle for the first time in 2 years, He quickly found his form and took full advantage of Winsleys change bowlers.
Harmers dismissal for a fine 51 bought the skipper to the crease who wasted no time in continuing the momentum. Even the wicket of Richie for a classy 66, couldn’t stop the momentum with vice captain Ben stroking a breezy 40 in partnership with JK (61).
278-6 From our 45 overs a fine batting effort.
Winsleys reply never got going with Andy Pegg again leading the attack brilliantly with 3 early wickets to help reduce Winsley to 23-5 inside 10 overs, From that point on the Magna were frustrated by some spirited defence by the lower order, Just as frustrations were starting to set in, the mood in the middle was lifted by a superb spell of fast bowling by Archie Walsh 7 overs 2 wickets for just 4 runs. The remaining wickets were shared among Simon 2, Harmer 1, DFP 1, And Ritchie 1. Winsley eventually all out for 104 in 38 overs,
3 from 3 now for the Mighty Magna!
